QUOTES FROM BCC's MEDICAL ASSISTING STUDENTS
Wendy Inscho

I chose Medical Assisting because I knew it would be a career that I would do well in, and be proud of. Along with the college experience at BCC I forged friendships that will last a life time. I also enjoy a sense of accomplishment, knowing I achieved the goals I set for myself at BCC.

Being a medical assistant, I no longer have the worry of being laid off due to problems with the economy.

I enjoy my new career knowing that, at the end of the day, I was able to help others. Now that I have begun working as a medical assistant, I have the wonderful satisfaction of doing the job I was trained for at BCC well. The sense of being part of a team at BCC has carried over to my new career. I feel very comfortable as a new team member in the medical field.

Lewis Hoffer

After working as a manufacturer for most of my adult life, I was looking for a change. The Medical Assisting program at Broome Community College was a great stepping-stone into the medical field.

The role of a Certified Medical Assistant encourages multi-tasking capabilities, permitting patient interaction through clinical and clerical duties. Thus, it's never the same mundane job. Medical Assisting is a growing field with many employment possibilities.

This solid base opens up many different fields as a start to my life as a medical professional.

Having a degree as a Medical Assistant can open more doors than people realize. Most students assume that once their degree is completed they will go and work in a physicians office, but this is not the only option that is available. As a graduate of the BCC Medical Assisting program, my career path has led me to a number of different positions within the medical field, including:

  • OR Scrub Tech, Birthing Center
  • Pre-Admission Test Assistant for Direct Admissions and Pre-Op surgery
  • Medical Office Assistant, Cancer Center and Occupational/Employee Health
  • Phlebotomy, including Specimen Processing and Phlebotomy Trainer
  • Health Office/Assistant to the School Nurse- Binghamton City Schools
  • Team Leader, Support Services Phlebotomy-Specimen Processing

If there were one word to describe this program it would be versatile. Graduates have the knowledge to be able to multi-task within different areas of a variety of types of health care facilities. This makes Medical Assistants valuable assets to organizations in whatever career path graduates choose.
