BCC Announces 2008
Chancellor’s Award Winners
-Statewide Awards Recognize Both BCC Students, Faculty & Staff-

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced this year’s recipients of the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence and for Student Excellence.

The recipients of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence are Katherine Bacon and Jeff Jurik. Bacon is an Assistant Professor of Performing Arts and received the award for Excellence in Teaching. She has worked for the College for 14 years. Jurik is a Staff Associate to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and received the award for Excellence in Professional Service. He has worked for the College for 18 years.

“Both Katherine Bacon and Jeff Jurik exemplify the very best at Broome,” said Dr. Spraggs. “Their enthusiasm for student success is contagious and professionalism is second to none. Broome is truly a better institution thanks to these two very devoted individuals and I congratulate them on this significant achievement.”

The letter, medallion and certificate will be presented to Bacon and Jurik at the Fall Faculty-Staff Assembly.

The recipients of the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence are Drew Hanessian and Jeffrey Walburger. Their awards ceremony took place on April 7, 2008 at the Empire State Convention Center in Albany.

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recognizes outstanding students who have integrated academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, community service, the arts, athletics or career achievement. The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence are recognition of and a tribute to the recipients expertise, dedication and commitment at their respective institution. Award recipients personify professional excellence and serve as role models for the State University of New York Community.

“I also want to congratulate our students on their achievement,” continued Dr. Spraggs. “The fact that students from Broome continue to receive these and other prestigious awards is indicative of the scholastic, personal and professional quality of our students.”
