| PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS |
- Children's Fair - Every spring the education/early
childhood students join with the Binghamton Association
for the Education of Young Children to sponsor the community's
children at the Children's Fair on the BCC campus. Student
and community agency- planned activities, community
displays, children's performances, and a nutritious
children's buffet are all offered at a very reasonable
price. It gives students a chance to "practice"
on real children and to serve the community along with
professionals in the field. We are proud of the long
tradition of the BCC Children's Fair with 2004 as the
nineteenth annual fair.

- EDUCATION Bulletin Board - In Titchener Hall, outside
room 203, the Education Bulletin Board is a communication
link with students. On that board are potential job postings,
articles of interest, BECA
Meeting announcements, and important notices of interest to
education students.
- BECA
Broome
Educators of Children Association is a campus club, sponsored
by Student Activity Fees. All education students are invited
to participate. The BECA
meets on Thursday at 11:00. The group holds workshops, does
service projects, and takes trips.
- Broome County Safety Facility Playroom - BECA
sponsors/maintains an area for children who are visiting family
members at the "jail" behind the BCC Campus. Various
members take turns cleaning and maintaining the equipment
there. BECA
fundraisers renew the play equipment each academic year.
- Fall Conference - Each fall the Education Department
in collaboration with Tech Prep and the Binghamton Association
for the Education of Young Children sponsors a conference
with keynote address and workshops of interest to the community's
teachers and future teachers. BCC Education Students can attend
this conference for no fee.
- Fall/Spring Advisement - Each semester advisement
pre-registration is held for three weeks. Every student is
assigned an academic advisor and can make an appointment to
review the student's progress toward fulfillment of degree
requirements. The secretary in Liberal Arts can tell a student
who is the assigned advisor. If none is available the student
may see Lenny Grozier, chair of the Teacher Education/Early Childhood
Department or meet with an academic counselor.
- SCHOLASTIC Book Sale - A fall activity of BECA
is the Annual Book Sale that takes place for 4 days in the
lobby of Titchener Hall. Volunteers staff a well-supplied
display of children's books and gift items. The project is
a fund-raiser for BECA and an awareness raiser of the importance
of reading.
- Spring State AEYC Conference - Each Spring BECA
sponsors a student activity to attend the state conference
of the Association for the Education of Young Children which
is held around the state. Earned income from fundraisers and
Student Activity fees are used to help students with registration
fees, transportation, lodging and food. Watch the Education
Bulletin Board in Titchener Hall outside 203 for news about
sign up.
- Dr. Suess' Birthday - BECA
joins NEA (National Education Association - a teachers' union)
to participate in Read Across America on Dr. Suess' Birthday,
March 12. BECA
campaigns for every BCC student, faculty and staff to read
to a child on that day through various campus and community
activities.
