Hyatt
Students, please call me Jessica.
Courses I usually teach: ECE 190 70 and ECE 190 02.
Background Education: I have a Bachelors of Science degree
in Human Development from The State University at Binghamton.
My course work includes various child development and child psychology
classes as well as an internship at the Hillcrest Parent Resource
Center. During my internship I developed and facilitated trainings
for new and expecting mothers concerning baby basics such as bedtime
routines, proper nutrition, changes in behavior and temperaments,
fostering language development, etc.
Work Experience: I am currently the Infant/Toddler Specialist
at the Family Enrichment Network where I develop and implement
Infant/Toddler curricula to provide child care providers and child
care center staff with training on best practices for infants
and toddlers. I am a member of the Children and Youth Service's
Prevention/Early Intervention Committee in Broome County and am
also working collaboratively with United Health Services to offer
new and expecting parents classes regarding newborn/infant care.
My experience with infants and toddlers includes a two year term
as a Nursery Director at Calvary Community Church, and a four
year term as a Special Education Teacher at The Institute For
Child Development where I worked with children 2-12 year of age
who were diagnosed Autistic, learning disabled, or emotionally
disturbed.
Philosophy Statement: I believe birth to three years old
is the most critical window of opportunity for children to learn,
grow, and develop. Infants and toddlers need patience, understanding,
and dedicated families and educators to support them and to teach
them during these crucial developmental milestones. My hopes for
my students are to acquire these traits so they can apply them
in providing high quality infant and toddler care based upon best
practices.
