Week 11

November 8

The XP install process is usually easy on a new hard drive – in with the CD and it takes over.

This can take time.  We’re spending today’s entire class on this.  Use your free moments to read the articles to the right – these are opinions and intended to help with different types of installation.

Lets attempt to connect the projector to the computer so everyone can see what’s going on.

Lab work:

Use parts of Lab 5.4 in Andrews as appropriate to learn about the motherboard.

You’ll each be writing a report on this project.

Finish assembly of computer – start to load XP.

Our department technician, Don, will provide the XP disk and secret codes ..

You can do your own google or altavista search for more information.

Learn as much as you can about this process.

 Lab work:

Use parts of Lab 5.4 in Andrews as appropriate to learn about the motherboard.

Read through the sites posted last week and this week.

You’re working on a detailed report regarding building a computer and loading the software.

Today – finish and submit your report on building a computer and loading software.

Include the experience of shopping for parts ( what characteristics did we look for ), building the computer, and the various driver and software packages we loaded.  Can you build your own computer now ?

Your report should include images to enhance the presentation.  Write this as a ‘how to’ guide.
