CST & EET Citrix Servers

            Starting with the Spring 2004 semester, all registered students in the Computer Studies and Electrical Engineering Technology departments will have access to the two Citrix Servers purchased by these departments.

            Citrix Servers coupled with nFuse technology allow you to access departmental software from any PC computer with a fast (broadband) connection.  This software can be accessed on campus, from your home, in another state or around the world.  (actually, even dial-up connections will work in an emergency but the interface will be very slow)

            The advantages of using Citrix Servers with nFuse technology are numerous.  First, the burden of computing power rests with the server, not the computer equipment you are using.  That means that even a slow or old computer can access, compile and link programs and applications at high speeds.  It also means that you don’t have to fill your computer’s hard disk with an endless number of software applications.  It means that you don’t have to come on campus to use, possibly crowded, computer labs.  You will now be able to complete assignments from any location with a PC and a high speed internet connection.

            Currently the following software is available* for your use:

            Microsoft Office including:  Word, Excel and PowerPoint

            Visual Studio.NET  including:  C++, C#, J# and Visual Basic

            Multisim (circuit design software for logic and EET courses)

            Visio  (flow chart software plus a whole lot more)

            The following pages will provide the information you will need to access our Citrix Servers from your computer.  You should make an attempt to use these servers early in the semester BEFORE that “critical” assignment is due.

            If you have problems, these are your contacts:

           Programming problems – see your instructor.

            Citrix Server questions – see Gary Kohut (CST dept tech)

* Currently MAC computer access is not supported (PCs only).   Also, new software will be added as it becomes available.
