This is an on-line course that requires the use of view books and a computer. You must have access to Microsoft Office 2003 to participate in this course. If you do not have a computer at home, you will be working at your convenience with an on campus computer. We will communicate with one another using E-mail and occasional meetings on campus. Most of what you will learn you will do yourself using the materials that are a part of this course. You must maintain contact with me through the course, and submit required materials to me on time for evaluation. There is no specific time that you have to be on-line, however the course is NOT self-paced. There will be class activities that you need to participate in each week.
While the structure of this course gives you a lot of flexibility in how you use your time, you must be vigilant with regard to submitting required materials by the due dates. At the conclusion of the course, you will need to have demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applied to the technology field.
A schedule of available on campus laboratory times is posted on computer laboratory doors. In addition, I have a lab reserved on Wednesday morning from 730AM to 830AM. You are welcome to meet with me at this time for assistance on our course work. The lab area is in the basement of the Applied Technology building, AT 019. Weekend and evening hours are available in the college library and the Business building. When you have questions or when you are submitting work to me, use either of my E-mail addresses.
For E-mail, use the BCC student E-mail server: https://webmail.sunybroome.edu/
NOTE: Do not send or receive course E-mail using your AOL account. AOL is not reliable.
It is anticipated that you will need about nine hours each week on your computer to complete the work in this course. This is a 3 credit hour course.
You must have the time to do the work in this course, read the course materials, do the homework, and complete the projects. You must have access to the software either at home or on campus.

This version of CST 106 does not have any scheduled lectures or labs. Instead, you must maintain contact with me each week. If I do not hear from you each week and/or you are not submitting required materials, I will assume that you are dropping the course. You must check your E-mail daily ( 7 days a week ) . Your contact with me will be mostly using E-mail. Some of you may desire to attend the Wednesday morning lab sessions from 730AM to 830AM.
If you think you might not submit assignments by the deadlines, then you need to read the RULES here.
There will be three exams given on-line and may include some computer time. An exam missed due to unavoidable circumstances only ( as determined by me ) may be made up, only if I have been notified prior to the time of the scheduled exam. In general, a student can expect the make up exam to be more rigorous and challenging than the original. The make-up exam must be taken within one week.
You will be E-mailed occasional quizzes or other requests for information. A response is required within two days.
There will be a number of projects during the course that use the tools we are learning about. These may include the following:
