WebPageWork

You’re looking at a web page now.  It was created with Word, and saved as an htm or html document.  There are lots of ways to create a web page.

·        One, you could use Notepad, put in all the html code (   <center>  Hello </center> ) , and save the file as an htm or html document.

·        Two, you could take an existing web page ( a simple one, not msnbc… ) and modify it. Here are some: http://www.sunybroome.edu/~eet_dept/blanks/

You can save the page and open it using Word2000, or Navigator.

·        Three, you could download Netscape 4.79 with Composer.  Composer is a great editor.  ( Netscape 6.1 stinks… )

·        Four, you could buy a commercial web page program like Hot Metal Pro, or MS Publisher.

·        Five, you could use Word 2000 and save the file as a Web Page.

I’ve used all of these methods.

The first ( Notepad ) gets a little tiring – having to remember all the html codes.

I really like Netscape’s Composer.  They used to have a wizard, but they shut if off.  Netscape has made a lot of mistakes.

It’s a wonder they are still in business. Anyhow, Netscape 4.79 works pretty well.  The full version has some extra junk you’d rather not have. You can turn it off after the installation.  Unfortunately, Navigator by itself may not have the Composer part.  After you’ve done the download ( 11 Meg +) and the installation, bring up Netscape, and select File/New/Blank Page and you’ll be in Composer.

THIS page was created using Word2000.  I was able to pick a background color ( Format, Background) and put in some HyperLinks .  I saved it first as a .doc file, then as a .htm file.  Word2000 puts in a LOT of extra stuff.  When you do a ‘View Source’, you’ll see all the gunk.

WHERE TO GET STARTED????

In Word2000, just start typing ! ( Keyboarding )  or…….

I’ve put some more information on using Word2000 for your web page work at WebWord.htm.

Once you get going on this, you’ll start to add things.  As you get questions, E-mail me!

When you are done with your web page, you’ll send me your html file along with any picture files. I’ll up load them to the server. You’ll find them here:
