Using Word2000 to Create a Web Page
Begin by bringing up Word2000; save the file immediately using a name with no spaces in it. The server will disallow a file name that has spaces in it! You will NOT be able to change the name later due to the file that is created containing any images you use with your web page. The name of the folder is created automatically, and if you select a file name with spaces in it, you will have to start over from scratch. End of important message! Word2000 will show you no mercy.
With that said, Word2000 is a pretty good way to create a web page. You’re looking at one now. This document was initially saved as WordWeb.doc. After the page was created, it I did a ‘Save As’ and selected ‘Web Page’ from the dropdown list.
When you create your web page, you can change the font size and color, the background color, pattern, or image, and insert pictures or clip art. A good web page will make use of these effects.
Changing the Background: Select Format/Background. You can pick a color, or see Fill Effects to change patterns, or insert an image. There are a lot of background images available on the Internet. One such site is: http://home.netscape.com/assist/net_sites/bg/backgrounds.html
You can do a search for more places for these materials.
Changing the Font: Select Format/Font to change size, font, or font color. You can also use the buttons at the upper right of the screen.
To set up a hyperlink to a site on the Internet: Write the words that you want to be hypertext, and then use the mouse to highlight them. Select the button at the top of the page with the planet and chainlink ( or Select Insert/Hyperlink ) . Type in the complete web address including the http:// part.
For example, to go to Yahoo, click this. Hyper text is a word or group of words that when you click them send you to a site on the Internet.
Inserting an Image or Clipart: Select Insert/Picture. You’ll find that the picture is inserted at the cursor location. You can change the picture properties later and move it around the page by right clicking the image and selecting ‘format picture’.

.
Not all of the normal Word2000 features will transfer properly to a web page. You’ll have to experiment to get what you want.
One final point. When you save your document, a folder will be created that will contain any images you have used. The name of the folder associated with THIS WebWord web page is WebWord_files. When you send me your web page document ( .htm file ), you will also need to send me the images in your folder.
